Our recent pick of weird programs for Palm OS has been well received, but users from the other side demand their dose, too. By request, we bring you the Pocket PC counterparts of the weirdest Palm applications we showed you last Tuesday, while our weirdness specialist completes his quest of weird PPC software.

A major tipping point for Palm OS vs. Pocket PC has always been the availability of more applications. However, the mobile platform in the Windows family is catching up quickly. For instance, in Motricity's download portals, PalmGear displays just today 25.753 available programs, while PocketGear already offers 15.826. Still quite a gap, but closing.

Therefore, it hasn't been hard to find for Pocket PC one or more applications for most of the surprising applications covered by the fourteen weird programs for Palm OS we suggested in our recent feature. Here they are:

The check, please

If you're the type who gets angry when you ate just a salad and have to pay the same amount than the scrounger who had a three-course meal, including appetizers, coffee, liquor and a cigar, your program is PocketDiner. Besides splitting the restaurant bill according to who ate what, including tips, this program beats Palm OS's Bistromatic in the ability to set apart items that have been shared by everybody, if you feel yourself in such a mood.

Stress-relief bubbles

Not one, but two bubble-wrap simulators, ready to be burst for your peace of mind. Even being a free app, Stressed! comes closer to many games, because it allows choosing levels, graphics and popping bubbles against the clock. Interesting, but we'd rather give a pop to eWrap, mimicking most faithfully (look at the top screenshot) the real bubble wrap, and allowing to drag and pop.

Recreational activities

Palm's Palmasutra has two Pocket PC counterparts, Sexual Positions y Pocket Kama. Both replace Palmasutra's illustrations by actual photos of the suggested sexual positions, adding an English description. By the way, none includes more than 25 options, versus Palmasutra's 69 positions. Should we start worrying about the creativity of PPC users compared to Palm users?

Flashlights and mirrors

There are also PPC programs for dire straits: Pmirror turns the PPC screen to black, so you can use it as an emergeny mirror, while PDAlight does the opposite, lighting it in white (or your pick of eight solid colours) serving thus as a flashlight for dark places.

Torturing the doll

This voodoo simulator for Pocket PC is even more cruel than Palm's. Besides sticking pins into the doll, Voodoo Pal offers a choice of 10 torture instruments, but the best part is replacing the doll's face with a photo of your victim. However, such functions are restricted to the paid version, but it costs less than two dollars.

Daisy, Daisy...

HAL9000, the bad computer from 2001, has also its big red eye and its soothing voice on a Pocket PC screen. Actually, both versions, for PPC and Palm, come from the same developer.

Bloody insects

We are sorry: if your neighbour's dog likes you too much, we haven't found any dog-scare program as Palm OS' Scare the Dog. However, if your problems are mosquitos, you are in luck: Mosquito Prevent includes a frequency selector for covering all mosquito flavours, and you can spice the operation with some multimedia, which can also be disabled. Unfortunately, if you want to test this app, you'll have to pay 5 $, because it lacks a demo version.

Stay tuned

This has been just a glimpse. but there are even weirdest programs for Pocket PC. If you liked these, please come back in a few days for more.
